Nc6? Black blunders a piece due to the pinned e6 pawn. It is vitally important to keep track of pinned pieces, and decide when it is necessary to break a pin. 5...Be7 breaks the pin, or Black can move the d5 knight. 6.Bxd5 Be7 7.Bc4 0-0 8.Nf3 Nb4 9.0-0 9.d3 guards the c2 pawn with the queen, not allowing Black any chances. Nxc2 10.Rb1 Nd4 11.Nxd4 Qxd4 12.Bd3 White passes up another chance to play d3, freeing the bishop on c1. If white doesn't use his extra piece, it is not much good! Bd6 13.Qf3 Qe5 14.g3 Bd7 15.Re1?? White makes a blunder, caused in part by his failure to clear the back row of minor pieces, which would connect the rooks. Qxe1+ Black grabs the rook. 16.Kg2 Bc6 |

| This diagonal pin will force trades or win material. 17.Ne4 White blocks with the wrong piece. Now black will win a piece. 17...f5 18.b3 Bxe4 19.Bxe4 fxe4 This time instead of trading queens with Qxe4, Black is going after the king. 20.Qg4 Qxf2+ 21.Kh3 Qf1+ 22.Kh4 Be7+ 23.Kh5 Qf7+ And mate will follow. A good final combination by Black. 24.Qg6 Qxg6#. |
