Scholastic Chess Programs
Manhattan New School
Manhattan New School's popular chess program is rooted in its popular
Lunch Time Chess, on Tuesdays for grades 2 through 5 (with Sophia Rohde, John MacArthur and Nelson Dunn)
and on Fridays for kindergarteners and 1st graders (with Sophia ROhde, Michael Rohde, John MacArthur and Nelson Dunn);
Afterschool Chess, on Wednesdays (with Michael Rohde, Nick de Firmian and Nelson Dunn),is geared towards advanced players; many (but not all) students
in Afterschool Chess are experienced tournament players. The MNS PTA sponsors in-curriculum chess for 3rd graders (with John MacArthur)
MNS regularly sends strong teams to the New York City, New York State and
National Scholastic Championships.
