Scholastic Chess Programs

Spence

Chess at Spence School includes both an in-school curriculum and several afterschool classes. For 2003-04, Spence is offering chess as a weekly curriculum activity for 2nd graders. The afterschool program meets on Wednesdays and has sequential classes grouped by age. Sophia Rohde, along with Michael Khodarkovsky, directs the chess program. Spence regularly sends teams to the New York City, New York State and National Scholastic Championships, and is one of the strongest girls' schools in chess in the country. Spence is also unique in that students from other schools can attend the Spence afterschool chess classes.

Check back here for reproductions of some of the material learned in class.
