Services
Some of our types of scholastic programs are listed below.
In-Curriculum Chess: Many schools
find chess as a curriculum activity for selected classes
to be highly enriching. Our Kids Chess Network teacher
visits the classroom for one period a week.
Daytime Elective: Chess
as an elective is very appealing. Lunch period is sometimes
used for these elective programs, or the Kids Chess Network teacher
can
meet with the students who sign up in the school library or other
common area.
Afterschool Chess Club: This
remains the most popular choice for schools that wish to
offer the
benefits of chess. Afterschool meets once (or more,
if there is a large sign-up) a week; in many of our schools, chess
is the most popular afterschool activity.
Tournaments: Kids
Chess Network provides individual guidance as to when a child
is ready for tournaments,
and which events and sections to play in.
Tournament chess is exhilarating for children and
can be very confusing to parents.
Kids Chess Network runs its own periodic tournaments, and provides
coaching services for players as well as free advice
for parents.
We advise players in 3rd grade and above to keep score of
all their games using the algebraic notation system of coordinate squares.
To keep score, you can use our own KCN
scoresheet.
Camps, mini-camps and special events: Since 2002,
our day camps, now held in late March, late June and late August, have proven
to be very popular. For children who like chess, playing and learning chess can
be an all-day activity! |
